Texas Weather Can’t Dampen the Hopes of
These Grads

Skies heavy with rain and humidity were not
enough to weigh down the mood of Sherman
High School’s 2017 graduates as they took to
the field of Bearcat Stadium and were presented
their diplomas.
The school said goodbye to nearly 400
graduating seniors in the commencement
ceremony.
“This is the beginning of a great future for all of
our graduates,” Sherman Independent School
District Superintendent David Hicks said. “And
it’s exciting for me, because it’s a culmination of
all of the work that they’ve done and all the work

of our teachers and community to help get them
ready to take on the world.”
Hicks said he was proud of the Class of 2017 and
said the $4 million the seniors collectively received
in scholarships were indicative of their academic
achievements. And with the students set to
attend colleges, enter the armed services and the
workforce, Hicks said he hoped they would make
the world a better place than when they found it.
“I hope they dream big and come back to make a
difference in Sherman and the rest of the world,”
Hicks said.
