Also, last year, Sherman ISD was home to the: • Texas Bilingual Teacher of the Year, • Region 10 finalist for Teacher of the Year, • National Speech and Debate Association Diamond Coach Award coach, and • A Texas Honor Roll elementary school This year our students and staff are on track to do all this and more. We have a lot to be proud of in Sherman ISD! As we continue this school year, we should take a moment to review the strategic plan goals that are still before us. This edition of the Sherman School and Family magazine focuses on sharing the ways we are working hard to achieve the goals worthy of emphasis this year: • Increasing academic achievement through continued instructional excellence • Increasing parent, staff and student engagement, and • Celebrating achievements and communicating the Bearcat Spirit Our trustees continue to place the highest emphasis on employee recruitment and retention to benefit student success and as a result, Sherman ISD now has the highest starting salary and the most generous leave policy in Grayson County. The district has also implemented new employee benefits that honor longevity of service and contribute more to our employees’ retirement. Read on to learn about how we teach teachers to be their very best, and take few minutes to discover the process behind hiring the very best of the best. You’ll learn about our schools, about how this district is growing, and what it means to build Sherman Bearcats. It truly is in everything we say and everything we do. Thank you for making a difference and supporting our schools! Sincerely, Dr. David Hicks Superintendent 7
