STATE QUALIFIERS IN FINE ARTS A combined 84 Sherman High School band, choir, and orchestra students are among the elite to advance to the Texas UIL State Solo & Ensemble contest after their performances at the Region 25 UIL Solo and Ensemble contest and dozens more earned first and second division ratings. CHOIR The Sherman High School choir competed with 44 soloists, three ensembles, and one piano solo. Out of the 44 soloists, 28 received the highest rating of a Superior (I) and 14 soloists received a rating of Excellent (II), and the three ensembles received an Excellent rating. “I’m quite proud of these students and their accomplishments. They all worked very hard and represented Sherman High School well,” Choir Director Leslie LeMaster said. “Many judges made comments about our students’ professionalism and preparation.” Thirteen students, including the piano solo, will go on to compete at state level: Jacob Anderson Olivia Brown Maddie Delivaudais Katarina Kuykendall Sarah McGinn Avery Shaw Kortney Dunn, Piano 10 Lillian Boessen Skylar Davis Parker Estes Justice Martin Gustavo Romero-Guardado Regan Zachary BAND The Sherman High School band competed with 103 performances. Of those, 98 received a first or second division rating. “I’m very proud of our students for all their hard work and the excellent ratings they received,” Band Director Ryan Jenkins said. “They had an excellent showing and Sherman High School will be well-represented at state.” In all, 57 students qualified to state, including 24 soloists and 12 ensembles.
