The Correctness Chronicles

AKA

The Three Visually impaired Apodemus agrarius and the Agricultural Co-operative Team Member’s Partner!

Three blind mice, three blind mice,

See how they run, see how they run,

They all ran after the farmer's wife,

Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,

Did you ever see such a thing in your life,

As three blind mice? ……………..

“I is wishing I was not quite so sarcastic at times, as I forget that sometimes my intended humour is lost on some audiences. This is definitely one of those occasions.”

The last half an hour payback for my latest flippant remark and it doesn't look like this ordeal is

going to end anytime soon now Zemy is in full flow.

“Zemy” (not her real name) like me is not a Scouser. Unlike me she is not a Northerner with family

connections to the Pool. She arrived here in the mid eighties to attend Liverpool Poly and study

Sociology., fresh from the Home Counties, village life, Grammar School , and the Girl Guides. Until

then the nearest she had any interaction with diversity was watching Derek and Floella on Play

School, and Love Thy Neighbour.

By graduation she had changed her name to Žemyna AKA Zemy. Which was chosen from a book

of Goddesses. Apparently because Žemyna is the goddess of earth in Lithuanian mythology and it

is important to acknowledge that cultures throughout the world are rich in heritage and mythology. Well that and the fact that she was going out with a Lithuanian bloke at the time.

“But anyway I digress, another talent of mine along with procrastination, and sarcasm amongst

others. The latter being what had led to the current situation which as I was saying is all my fault.”

We were meeting to discuss potentially developing some projects to try and get some business.

We are both currently Equality Consultants and getting no work, (Bloody public sector cuts)..

Zemy does women’s issues, whilst my work covers the spectrum of equalities (quote from my

marketing stuff). I tend to concentrate on race issues, reflective of my background as a person of

diverse heritage (not the much used term even in the eighties “half caste”. I hate that phrase) .

Previous activism and roles on this issue, twinned with my left wing leanings may have made some

contribution to me “currently enjoying a lot of free time and evolution into a semi-professional

volunteer”.
