Words to the March of the Women – Ethel Smyth

(Dedicated to the Women’s Social & Political Union)

However, if I am at home and it comes on the radio or TV, no such regard for decorum is followed and an ad hoc performance can be a regular occurrence. Not that mothers ‘flash mob solo’ goes down too well there either. It is slightly more acceptable at home (preferably alone) than in the city centre. One thing nobody ever, and I mean EVER wants to catch me singing too, and I use the term ‘singing’ very loosely here is when I get caught up in Minnie Riperton marathon, or Lover’s Rock. I am no match for their high hitting notes, but it does make people want to ‘Ring My Bell’, and some!

I also like Protest songs. As I have been singing away sorting out the magazine, the weekly on-line papers, tweets, etc it became more and more apparent that much is written about women #ProtestHERs over the years, not much in song though. This got me thinking ….

1)The #SHEvolution should probably have a song (I’ll get back to that)

2)What are the old Women’s Movement Protest Songs?
