Singing about a #SHEvolution ...

by Tracey Hylton

I like to sing. People don’t like me to sing. I can’t sing. I don’t actually like my singing. I like to sing though. I like to sing songs I really like. The type of songs I like is as many of you would expect ‘quite diverse’, from Soul, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop etc.

I often end up singing over and over again the chorus of flimsy ‘popular’ songs ,that I actually don’t like (at all in fact), but they just so darned ‘catchy’, and off I go. These are usually drilled into my brain by stealth via adverts, radio and ‘shop music’, which can be quite eclectic. Often when I am in shops and a particularly good tune comes on I have to dig deep to my inner strength and prevent myself from accidently singing and dancing in public, like they do in all those musicals. Singing In the Rain, Glee, and Grease are not real, and the people in them at least have real talent. So much supressing of the dynamic Diva occurs whilst trying to buy some bread.
