Celebrating May Commencement 2013
Former New Hampshire Governor John H . Sununu spoke at Shenandoah University ’ s 2013 commencement ceremony on May 11 and received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree . Sununu served as the 75th governor of New Hampshire , over the course of three consecutive terms from 1983 to 1988 , before his appointment as White House Chief of Staff under President George H . W . Bush . He also served as counselor to the president . “ It was an honor to have Governor Sununu serve as our speaker at Shenandoah ’ s commencement ceremony this year ,” said President Tracy Fitzsimmons , Ph . D . “ His extensive track record of service to his state and his country , as well as his experience in the private sector and in higher education , gives him a diverse background and an interesting point of view from which to speak . I was so pleased to hear the constructive and invaluable advice he gave to our graduates .”
On Saturday , May 11 , the Shenandoah University community , including many family and friends , gathered on main campus to celebrate the 2013 Commencement ceremony . Approximately 241 August graduates and 286 December 2012 graduates joined 669 May candidates in receiving their degrees . Former New Hampshire Gov . John H . Sununu delivered the commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree . Founder and Director of the Farm Midwifery Center ( Summertown , Tenn .) Ina May Gaskin , M . A ., C . P . M ., received an honorary Doctor of Science degree .
