Why It ' s Not All About Just Pumping Weights
Do you need to lengthen and stretch , do you want yoga ?
Does your body want to be free and dance ?
Does your body want to feel the wind pass over it ’ s skin as you run along the beach or through nature ?
Does your body want to walk , explore ?
5 . Now wait for the ‘ feeling ’…. and if you still don ’ t get one … keep asking questions until you do .
Perhaps you will receive this feeling through sound or words in your ears , or you will feel tingles or your heart may skip a little faster .
Or perhaps you will see an image in your mind . Whatever it is … go with it … and go do it !
I have been training in the gym for over 20 years . And I love to combine this with running , walking , hiking , yoga , pilates and just every day play .
I don ’ t do them all in the same week , I wait for my body to tell me what ‘ it ’ wants .
This isn ’ t always the way I managed my fitness and wellbeing .
Previously … I followed what I thought I ‘ should ’ do … I would run , then I would run faster , then I would run faster and longer … and I ran until I gave myself a knee injury or shin splints or hip pain … I wouldn ’ t take the time to listen to what my body needed … I only did what I thought I should to stay fit !
I would lift weights , then I would lift some more , then I would lift them so often , six or seven days per week and I would end up with a shoulder injury or chronic neck issues .
Today , it ’ s a much better story … I was telling my bestie a few weeks ago …” I can feel my body is screaming out for yoga , I feel I need to give the weights a rest and get out of the gym .”
I haven ’ t been to yoga for quite a while now … but it ’ s definitely time to start again .
Now I am not giving you permission here to just sit on your hands for weeks on end waiting for your body to respond … being blatantly ignorant about the fact your body was MADE to move , it WANTS to move !
If you don ’ t know where to start … and you are struggling with this process … for crying out loud … just go for a walk and be consistent about it . I guarantee after a mere 3 weeks of this , you will WANT to do it ! *
