Sharpest Scalpel Volume 4, Number 2 | Page 6

Editor’ s POV

The Scalpel offers BIG HUGS to everyone who has made this moment in CDUs’ history such a historic and enjoyable stretch of time. In its striving to be a welcoming safe space, CDU celebrates the fact its culturally diversity is a primary key to its success. While other institutions merely claim the diversity mantel, we know that our people are encouraged, nurtured, and supported in the best ways possible.

We are very fortunate that during the tenure of President David M. Carlisle, the accomplishments large and small by so many have been acknowledged and celebrated. This is a place where big thinkers gravitate; where big goals are formulated, and big projects are built in the crucible of converging ideas and inspiration.
The evidence is delightfully overwhelming. The launch of a new 4-Year MD program; a new name and guiding vision for our prestigious nurse training enterprise, now officially a College. CDU’ s College of Science and Health that has launched so many successful initiatives that its public health training program has been elevated to a number one national ranking for training and career advancement, surpassing even traditional giants Johns Hopkins and GWU. Then there is the fundraising campaign, CDU Rise, that so surpassed its initial $ 75M goals that the bar was raised another $ 20M.
We have much to be thankful for. Let’ s continue to keep our eyes on the progress of this Watts- Willowbrook renaissance that has been anticipated and cherished for over half a century. It’ s all here; a source of inspiration that keeps you well-prepared workers excited, and the fire of accomplishment perpetually stoked.
