In July 2019, CDU COM Department of Family Medicine received a five-year, $ 2 Million grant from the federal DHHS Health Services Resources and Services Administration( HRSA).

Assists CDU in Promoting Community Wellness
The award offers increased access to integrated care for residents in underserved South Los Angeles communities, as well as training for University faculty, residents, and physician assistant students in utilizing integrated treatment models, culturally appropriate substance abuse intervention, and support for provider wellness.
Under the leadership of Dr. Lisa Barkley, HRSA principal investigator and Chair of the Family Medicine Department, the HRSA program has developed a comprehensive approach that includes the resources of the Martin Luther King Community Hospital Outpatient Center. Actively engaged are Yolanda Vera, MLKCH / OPC Chief Executive Officer; Dr. Ellen Rothman, MLKCH / OPC Chief Medical Officer; Dr. KhanhPhong Trin, MLKCH / OPC Director of Continuity Care; and Stacey Ma DuBois of the County Mental Health Department. The program offers culturally responsible strategies that provide solutions for the unique health and wellness challenges of CDU’ s professional community.
