After the horrific attack at Pittsburgh’ s Tree of Life synagogue on October 27, AJC’ s # ShowUpForShabbat initiative motivates millions of Jews and non-Jews— including diplomats, elected officials, and interfaith leaders— to fill synagogues the following Shabbat. Over a quarter of a billion people see the hashtag on social media, and the campaign leads to the largest-ever display of solidarity with American Jewry.
2020
Muslim World League Secretary General Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa and then-AJC CEO David Harris lead a groundbreaking joint visit of Muslims and Jews to Auschwitz. Al-Issa is accompanied by a delegation of 62 Muslims from 28 countries. The mission represents the most senior Islamic leadership delegation to ever visit a Nazi death camp and generates global media coverage.
2020
History is made when Israel establishes diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco. The Abraham Accords fulfill a vision that AJC vigilantly pursued for decades. Since 1994, AJC has made frequent visits to the Arabian Gulf and North Africa, cultivating ties between Israel and the Arab world. To build on this work, in 2021, AJC opened an office in Abu Dhabi, its first in an Arab nation.
