Story of a big heart

In the online newspaper Fanpage.it you can find the beautiful story of Giulia Capraro, a girl from Sciacca (Sicily) who loves animals and who attracted the attention of the editorial staff for her daily commitment in favor of abandoned dogs and stray dogs. Despite her young age (she is only 16 years old) Giulia with the collaboration of her parents helps the impotent animals. The girl turned to fanpage.it, which carried out an extensive service with which it hopes to reach many people and convey its message of solidarity towards animals, often abandoned and subjected to mistreatment and abandonment. We decided to interview her and ask her our curiosities.

What prompted you to become a volunteer? Where does this need to help animals in difficulty come from?

Even when I was a child I felt this love for animals but all started a few years ago when I found a kitten in the trash with my mother and we collected it. Since then I have started collecting animals from the street, with or without my mother’s consent. I brought them home and they remained with me until the day they died. All the expenses were mine, I even got 20 cats two summers ago of all ages, which I then had to split into different rooms because there was a real gastroenteritis epidemic, many did not survive from it.

Have you always liked animals or did anything in particular happen that changed your life?

A year ago I met the regional delegate of Sicily of the Balzoo association, since then I have slowly entered in the voluntary service. I continued to collect animals from the street but with the help of the association, I entrusted them everywhere with the pre-foster care. Now everything has become very much bigger and not only I collect them, but they also call me from all over Sicily to gather those who need it most, plus here I am one of the few who knows how to feed them better.

How many animals have you saved?

According to my calculations I have saved about 63 dogs and cats in three years, but I may have forgotten someone and I have not counted pigeons, swallows, sparrows and hedgehogs. For now at home I have 19 animals: 3 dogs, 5 adult cats, one of which has 4 puppies and the other one of 7.
