Chapter Two Chapter Two The steady beeping was reverberating in her skull, like a little burst of pain beep…beep…beep. Why was it so loud and couldn’t someone turn it off? It was awful. She made a small painful sound that hurt. She tried lifting her hand but for some reason she could not seem to have the strength to do even that. “Uhh Uhh.” Come to think about it, her entire being hurt. She was like one big blob of pain. She swallowed, trying to get some moisture in her parched throat. “Wa—wa” She swallowed again. “Yes?” said a soft voice to her right. “Wa---te” She said the word not quite coming out. She felt foggy. She turned her head slightly to her right and the sound of the voice, wincing at the movement. Slowly she opened her eyes and saw a round face, with brown, worried eyes looking at her. He was leaning in close trying to hear what she was saying. “You want water?” he asked softly. She was about to nod but thought better of it. She saw him raise his hands and few 8
