Chapter One
“We are doing all we can for her, but with head injuries it can be
complicated.” Said the Doctor.
Travis nodded. “Thanks Doc, I know you are. And please don’t
worry about the bills or anything, I’ll take care of it, just make
sure she is taken care of.”
“Ok… well for now we will monitor her and hope she regains
consciousness soon. I would suggest you also go home and get
some rest, if there is any change, we will let you know.”
“Alright, I will but, can I see her first? Please?” He asked.
“Sure but, only for a few minutes ok.”
Travis nodded as he followed the Doctor into the small ICU
room.
He looked at the small figure in the middle of the bed, she was
hooked up to machines to assist her breathing, and her face was
swollen and bruised. There were heavy casts on her arm and leg.
She looked so helpless here. The steady beeping of the heart
monitor was the only sound in the room.
Looking at her he had flashes of another person lying in a bed
similar to this, of a smile that once meant the world to him;
suddenly it was hard to breath. Something about the image on
the bed was disturbing to his peace of mind. He needed to get
out of there.
