Chapter One
Richie was Travis’s housekeeper, Gloria’s six-year-old
grandson. He lost his father last year in an accident and spent
months withdrawn from every one; he had an immense fear of
death and dying. And every one worked hard to make sure he
was not traumatized further. After what had happened, Travis
was worried how it would affect him but Gloria assured him that
Richie was fine.
“Well, we have no choice but to wait.” Rodney said. “Listen
I’m going to check up on the boys. I’ll check back with
Springvale P.D. Will you stay here?”
“Yeah, I just want to hear what the Doctors have to say.” Travis
said. He knew he would be worried otherwise.
“OK, call me if you hear anything, I’ll do the same.” Rodney
made his way out of the hospital. This was probably the most
excitement around here in a long time. This small sleepy town
of Sunrise Ridge really did not see much action, besides the
occasional bar brawl.
Travis took a seat on one of the uncomfortable, plastic chairs in
the hospital waiting room; taking up one of the outdated
magazines on the table, he tried to waste away the time. This
day did not turn out as he had planned.
All he wanted to do this morning was take little Richie out by
the river and do some fishing, he had promised him he would do
it on his next day away from school. Riche was all excited
about it, and so was Travis. There was something about a
