Chapter One
Dreading. It all felt the same even though he was in a different
place now and the circumstances were different.
Travis turned as he felt a tap on his shoulder. Rodney was
standing in front of him, not as his neighbor today but, as an
officer of the law. He had a grim look on his face.
“Any news?” He asked Travis.
“No… they’re still working on her right now. The doctor said
it’s critical.” Travis sighed sadly. “You?”
“No… went down there, had my men combing the area hoping
to find something. I contacted the police department in
Springvale to see if they could help. With all the heavy rains
we’ve been having, it’s most likely that she had the accident
there. One way to know for sure is to wait until she gets up, only
she can tell us what really happened.”
“Hmm …yeah.” Travis nodded.
“Where’s Richie?” Rodney asked.
“His grandmother took him home… he sure got more than he
bargained for today!”
“Poor kid… is he alright?” Rodney asked concerned.
“Yeah, I was worried for a moment, but he seemed fine… he
was relieved to see she was being taken to the hospital, and not
you know… His grandmother’s with him. I’ll check on him
when I get home.”
