Opportunity
W
e do not believe in limitations, and strongly
encourage students to take advantage of all
opportunities that come their way. We ignore gender
stereotypes and do not believe that any position
or career is out of reach. Our curriculum builds and
develops transferable skills. Our students’ destinations
are testament to the emphasis and encouragement
shown to each and every student.
From as early as Year 7, right through to Sixth
Form, students are regularly given opportunities to
become leaders. Our School Council and Sixth Form
Committees meet regularly to review various aspects
of school life, and to be a part of many of the school’s
decision-making processes. Our older students lead the
younger ones as mentors and role models. Through
our student mentoring programme (Ch@) peers offer
support to each other, by swapping ideas and sharing
wisdom on things that older students may have already
been through, like revision worries or homework tactics.
We lead by example and in doing so provide our
students with a strong and positive support network.

This in turn enables them to recognise and engage
with a wide range of opportunities that will help them
grow spiritually, emotionally, socially and culturally. This
adds to their strength of character that brings them the
success that they invariably go on to embrace and enjoy.
Our career guidance and work experience programme
is excellent. Across the school we look to provide the
means for students to engage with external providers
and employers. Tied to this, we encourage our students
to be outward looking, therefore we actively promote
volunteering and fundraising, encouraging the students
to give of their time and knowledge to various charities
and companies. As a result, working with the local
community is a strong feature of our school.
We have strong links with local volunteer groups,
organisations and charities through careers days and
work experience as well as the Duke of Edinburgh
Award Scheme, Young Enterprise programme and the
Student Investors Competition. A large number of our
students also engage with the NCS programme each
summer (National Citizen Service). While each year
the students nominate two charities for the school to
support; historically, these have included WaterAid,
Railway Children, Alzheimers, BagsForSchools and
Cancer Research.
