5.3 Relationship and Work with Clients
With the recent advances in technology, sex workers who operate in the
indoor scene (apartments, hotels, motels) are increasingly using the benefits
of online dating web pages, the social media, public ads and various dating
applications in order to publicize and promote their sex services. On the
other hand, sex workers working in the outdoor scene offer their services on
the streets, i.e. the so called cruising spots, which are very well known to their
clients. It also quite frequently happens for sex workers to find their clients by
means of their colleagues’ referral.
A: “Well, I mostly find my clients via ads, I have some clients who found me by
referral form other clients who have already been with me, via dating apps, and
rarely when I am abroad I find clients in saunas or cruising spots, they way in
which I started working.” Male sex worker
L: “I find my clients via ads, I simply post the ad and I get through to the client. I
used to find clients on the streets, via social media, but I have been using the ads

J: “Via ads, by word of mouth, by friends’ referral, other sex workers.”

The physical attraction of the client is the determining factor when it comes
to sex workers’ enjoyment and pleasure while they provide their services. The
majority of sex workers stated that they enjoy themselves only with clients
whom they find attractive, whereas in other cases, they find providing the
service as a professional routine in which feelings and emotions are not
involved.
S: “It doesn’t mean that you have to get everything done quickly. There are
different people, new ones will appear and some of them will tell you their needs,
I most commonly get calls from those, to try to have sex with a man for the first
time. They have the desire to be with a man and totally relax. The fact that I am a
masseur as well means that I will have to relax them at first. They get relaxed only
by the massage at first. I am the one who has to relax them completely, to win
them over, so they call me again. There have been different cases, and from my
experience, those who have been with me for the first time, I have really helped
them realize they are part of the gay world, regardless of their marital status. They
sometimes say ‘hey, you’re great’, they praise me. I do help them only by having
slept with them for an hour or two, show them how to enjoy the experience and
that sometimes makes them say they want to make love to me. However, I can
