regular customers. I don’t really see the competition because someone is better
than me. I know my own capabilities and qualities which make me self-confident,
self-assured and professional. There are many reasons, but for me my client’s
satisfaction is top priority. Furthermore, I think it is necessary to invest in your
style and appearance, your hygiene, courtesy, charisma in order to attract and
keep your clients. It is not only the sex, it is also the communication that matters.
The problem is that we praise ourselves too much, which should be left to our
clients to do. They go to the one they are most satisfied with.” Male sex worker
J: “Not really. I don’t think it exists because our clients like different things. Once
he’ll come to me, the other time to someone else, they keep changing. There is no

L: “I think there is competition even though the clients wish for fresh meat all
time. It is really important how you work – your hygiene, your rapport with your

The earnings incurred by sex work generally meet sex workers’ needs, even
in cases in which the sex worker is the only breadwinner in the family. The
majority of our respondents spend their earning on everyday living needs,
i.e. paying for their living expenses, paying rent, food and clothing. The rest,
apart from the expenses mentioned earlier, allot a portion of their earning
to their children’s education. The earnings are not normally shared with their
partners, or pimps, only with family members or in case of a joint professional
engagement with a colleague.
LJ: “For the family, for the kids. Well yes, I am the only one. I: “Does it mean that

S: “Well yes, electricity and water supply bills, rent, food, cigarettes, phone
bills, and that’s pretty much it. An average life, I don’t need more, I don’t need
