5. Results This chapter of the publication contains the findings of the research. In the beginning, demographic data of the research sample is displayed, and subsequently there is a descriptive results presentation of sex workers’ lifestyle, i.e. reasons why these individuals became engaged sex work, the rapport established and their work with clients, their future, everyday life, as well as their mental and physical health, including the impact of their job on their mental and physical health and healthcare in relevant subheadings. 5.1 Demographic Data In this research, a total of ten sex workers were interviewed, which encompassed sex workers who are female, male and transgender working on the outdoor and indoor sex work scene on the territory of the City of Skopje. Sex Female Male Number 4 6 % 40 60 Gender Female Male Transgender Number 4 2 4 % 40 20 40 In terms of age structure, 30% of the sex workers interviewed belong to the 18 to 24 years of age group and between 30 and 36 years of age (see Annex 1). The greatest number of sex workers, i.e. 60% are ethnic Macedonians, followed by ethnic Bosnians 20%, and the rest are individuals of Roma and Albanian ethnicity (see Annex 1). A total of 50% of sex workers declared to be of Orthodox religious background, followed by respondents of Islamic religious background, i.e. 40%, and a single respondent who declared to be an atheist (see Annex 1). Most of the interviewed sex workers have completed their secondary education, i.e. 60%; others have an incomplete secondary education, i.e. 20%, as well as individual cases, i.e. one respondent with no formal education, and one with an incomplete higher education (see Annex 1). A total of 80% have a permanent residence in the City of Skopje; only two respondents permanently reside in Strumitsa – 20%, however, they are professionally engaged in Skopje. 9
