2 MACARTHUR MEMORIAL
Opening April, 2019.
T
he MacArthur Memorial is off
to a good start in 2019. This
is an important year, as we
mark the 55th anniversary
of General MacArthur’s death
on April 5, 1964, his interment
six days later, and the 75th
anniversary of some of his
greatest victories of World War
II—including his return to the
Philippines on October 20, 1944.
This spring is outreach and
education season, and traffic
is growing from years past. In
March and April, the Memorial
will host more field trips in two
months than typically hosted in
an entire year (since the early
2000s). For the last five years,
all participating schools have
received Traveling Footlockers,
or other outreach programs.
Traveling Footlockers contain
more than 40 artifacts from
World War II that give students
insight into the lives of average
Americans on the battlefield and
on the Homefront. Like all of the
Memorial’s education programs,
these Footlockers are free!

The Memorial’s WWI special
exhibit, Over Here, Over There,
closed at the end of 2018. Our
upcoming exhibit, titled Legacies:
The MacArthurs in Asia, 1898-1964,
will open 19 April 2019 and be up
until early 2021; we’re excited with
how it’s coming together.
Lastly, Amanda Williams and her
husband Patrick Clark and new
baby daughter, Elsa are doing
well. Baby is growing like a weed.
Amanda returned from maternity
leave on 22 February, and we are
glad to have her back. She will be
working on a modified schedule
for at least the balance of this year.
The Memorial’s 2019 Calendar
of Events is out! For more
