Sevenoaks 25: IB Art Exhibition | Page 20

Amelia Tovey
During my IB course I have focused on studying movement in figures . I have been drawn to incorporating sport into my artwork , as this not only resonates with my hobbies but is also an effective way to show dynamic movement . I have experimented with different mediums , including monoprints and forms of paintings , to slowly develop my own approach and technique . I took an interest in movement in figures as I felt captivated by the idea of capturing a single , fleeting movement onto a still , two-dimensional surface . Including the muscles and slight changes in the human form have been my focus , to create powerful and vigorous pieces of art that capture the spirit and energy of human life .
I have become more interested in creating art with the absence of colour , as I have found that using black and white creates a higher difference in tone and therefore a stronger , more vivid idea of the movement of the human body . Trying to accurately portray movement in figures , with all the slight imperfections and details , has been the most challenging part of the project , as well as finding which mediums to use to create the most dramatic pieces using light and shadow , with delicate differences in its attention to detail .
Taking IB Art has helped me explore and develop my abilities to use a range of mediums and encouraged me to think outside of traditional forms of art . Enjoying what I make with the freedom to express myself has been an incredible experience and I am so grateful for the Art department in helping me achieve all that I have done .
