My work explores organic forms , and extracts texture from unlikely sources . I was particularly intrigued by the intricacies of dust and their potential for artistic expression . I experimented with monoprinting dust to allow this texture to emerge completely , originally using small strips of paper to create portrait pieces . This developed into the idea of hanging , with my intentions being to hang these scroll-like pieces to examine their design when printed on either side . I scaled up my project to fit this plan , and made nine 8-foot monoprints from dust . This extracted the raw texture of dust ; it was almost shocking that dirt or dust could create a complex piece of art .
My ink drawings were the beginning of this exploration of dust , taking images with a macro lens to capture the dust ’ s natural form . I then took these photos for ink drawings that allowed me to abstract the images into pure texture . I strived to explicitly draw out the minuscule details . I found success in layering them with rigid forms , creating a significant contrast between humanity ’ s rigidity to the fluid organic forms . I made stencils inspired by gothic architecture , specifically cathedrals and their dramatic scale . The further contrast in the rigidity and significant scale divide allowed me to find a balance in the conflicting natures , and create a piece that is a culmination of organic forms and architecture .
