Sevenoaks 24: IB Art Exhibition 2024 | Page 9

Leon Goffin
During my IB Art course I have aimed to develop my creativity through self-exploration , making my way across varying forms of artistic expressions to find my overarching theme . The destination I reached was the use of geometric shapes and abstractions in creating finished pieces : combining elements of chaos with elements of structure to create pieces which when viewed from afar convey order , however , when closely looked at reveal disarray and imperfections among the brushstrokes : something which is found in almost every ‘ finished ’ piece of art . The process I employed entailed a study into the use of contrast , colour , lines and layering as I seek to create what I deem – and hope observers deem – to be eye-catching .
My work ranges from quicker print works to longer painting processes to contour sculptures , reminding me of my childhood , where my creativity stemmed from . The change from rural to urban landscapes shows the almost random path I travelled , although as reflected in my pieces , structure and planning were present as I moved from a man-made to natural outlook , demonstrating my doubt changing to confidence as my course progressed . These works evoke feelings of serenity , stress , and nostalgia as I reminisce on past times such as the New York Art trip and represent experiences I had with my family and , practically an extension , my friends .
