Through my work , I am always trying to depict and incite emotion . Whether a sculpture , a surrealistic painting or a digital rendering , I put a focus on emotion and the emotional value my art holds . For me , art has always been an outlet for my emotions , and though my pieces are often not reflections of myself , I aim to capture the emotions I am feeling as I work into the pieces themselves . I have over the past two years sought new ways to incorporate emotional value into my art , be it through texture , scale , facial expressions or even through a surrealist approach designed to allow the viewer to get in touch with their subconscious through the uncanny .
Oil painting has been my most prominent medium over the course of the IB , and one I have enjoyed experimenting with . From painting too thinly to treating it as acrylic , I have attempted to use oil paints in ways I wouldn ’ t normally consider . While treating materials in new ways is harder in the medium of sculpture , I have experimented with fabric , metal , wood , foam and clay to see how combinations of these materials can lead to them being considered differently when put together as a final outcome in contrast with how they would usually be considered from an artistic perspective . On the whole , I have focused on pushing my personal limits when using these materials to gain a greater understanding of the spectrum of outcomes that can be achieved when they are treated and manipulated in a non-traditional manner .
