Sevenoaks 24: IB Art Exhibition 2024 | Page 12

I ’ ve always liked tangible things , and , by extension , aesthetic tangible things . My art broadly focuses on scratching this itch to make – and own – aesthetic works , with some narrative and meaning behind each one .
Within art I ’ ve always been fascinated by change and decay . There is something poetic about seeing two sides of the same coin . Consequently , with many of my works , I try to imply this narrative destruction , whether in the form of a triptych sea battle , a burning house reflected in sunglasses , the pain of ageing , or just the corruption of a sculpture by wire .
Moreover , I enjoy experimenting with new techniques and media . Each of my works involves a process I ’ ve never worked with before or a mixture of media I ’ ve never tried . Most notably , my works throughout the IB have allowed me to experiment with oil paints and ballpoint pens , two media I had never touched before , and which now comprise much of my art .
Finally , the time I have had to focus on my IB Art , as well as the resources of the Art department , have allowed me to sculpt and paint at a scale at which I have never before worked . I am now addicted to my eight-foot-tall wire sculptures and my lifesize paintings – I ’ m not sure how I ’ ll be able to return to page-scale sketches in uni !
Ultimately , all of these new opportunities , media , techniques and possibilities have allowed me to achieve my goal . I have made , and now own , many , many aesthetic tangible things .
