Sevenoaks 20: Making Ways | Page 7

Charlie Bonner-Davies (OS 2017) Fine Art, University of Oxford 2017–2020 The main motif which encompasses my practice is understanding. Essentially, I use my art to explore the world around me both on a deeply personal level and in a more global sense. My most recent pieces consist of absurd drawings and words created in miniature. As though writing a diary, they are made in seclusion in a private space, the factor of what space one takes up being key to queer practices like my own. I then enlarge the work to create the scale of an advert – opening it up to the viewer to warp and interpret the piece in their own way, making the work become vulnerable. It is only through the act of creating such works that my mind can make sense of these ideas; through the communication, or lack thereof, between individuals. I am drawn towards such interactions due to the often-missing human component in art – all interpretations are equally valid; it is through this listening that we are able to understand each other.
