Anna Woodward (OS 2016)
Fine Art, City & Guilds of London Art School 2017–2020
Within my practice I explore the declassification of
classical Greek mythological paintings. I create my own
compositions made up of classical paintings through the
use of Photoshop, seeking to create a series of contrasts
through figurative abstraction and the composition of
colour and scale. In my large-scale paintings I use my own
style of painting to create patterned colour blocking to
build up the composition of my reference image. Within
my paintings I am interested in the concepts of colour and
chaos, striving to create busy and energetic paintings that
draw the viewer in and allow them to become lost in the
interacting shapes taking over the canvas. I work in gouache,
acrylic and oil paint to build up the rich colour and tones in
my work.
While studying Anna has also set up an artist-run gallery
space in Putney. Artisan Space strives to create affordable
opportunities for emerging artists to exhibit their work.
