Starting university this year and being introduced to new
students within a new city has made me think about the
ways people are affected by their environment and the
people that surround them. I was therefore inspired to
explore how I could visually represent the ways in which
different factors in an individual’s life shape their identity.
In both pieces the bold colours and lines represent the ways
in which experiences and relationships with people can
mark an individual and impact their personality; eventually
these marks combine to create the piece that is the identity
of the individual. I have tried to demonstrate that while
the colours may clash and the path of someone’s life may
change, the marks merge together to form a dynamic
representation of the person’s life. However, people remain
searching and identities change, therefore the negative
space in both pieces represents the room for personal
growth and change brought by future experiences.
