READING RESPONSE

OWhen we are reading and analyzing texts in our Language Arts classes, we always make textto-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections, ask questions, compare and contrast people, events and things, make predictions and inferences. This helps us to understand the text better. Here is my response to Stone Fox, Chapter 10.

STONE FOX CHAPTER 10 READING RESPONSE

I read chapter 10 of the book Stone Fox. It was really exciting and I got emotional at the end of the book because it was sad. Let me tell you a bit about the 10th chapter of Stone Fox. Its title is‘’ The Finish Line’’. In the chapter, Willy gets close to the finish line and wins in the end because Stone Fox, surprisingly, sacrifices his chance of winning and helps Willy win. I thought that Stone Fox is a good man because he sacrificed his chance of winning and helped Little Willy. I also thought that Searchlight is a brave and loyal dog because she died for Willy to win the race. She wanted to save Grandfather. I predicted that Stone Fox will win the dogsled race but I was wrong because Willy won the dogsled race. I had one more prediction. I predicted that Searchlight would live, but she died. I predicted that Searchlight would live, because she was a strong dog, she pulled a sled to carry the crops for ten days and she was alright, so I was surprised when the book ended that way.... I had some questions while I was reading the book, too. One of my questions was: Why did Stone Fox help Willy when he had a chance of winning the dogsled race? I asked that because I thought that winning is important and at first, I thought Stone Fox was a bad man so I thought that he would act selfishly. I had one more question: Why did Stone Fox start the race in the last place but gain speed in the end? I asked that because I wondered which race technique he used and why he used that technique. I had some connections while I was reading, too. One of my connections was: I went to Uludağ once and I was riding on a sled, then I had a crash and flipped backwards twice! I connected this memory of mine to this part of the book; When Searchlight dies, Willy and his sled have a crash like the crash I had in Uludağ, because both of us hit the ground and fell. I had one more connection: I read a book about the runner, Merve Aydın. Once, she got injured and walked to the finish line in an hour. I connected this memory of mine to this part of the book; When Willy and Searchlight had a crash, Willy carried Searchlight and they walked by the finish line together, just like Merve Aydın. I recommend this book to you. It is one of the best books I have ever read. Thank you for reading my reading response.

CHARACTER DAY PROJECT

This year as 6th graders, we did“ Character Day Project”. First we chose a character( book or film). Then we made presentations and wrote about what characteristics they have. After that we took a picture with the book or DVD which had the character we chose. Finally, we shared our project with our teacher, Miss Rachel. The thing that makes this project different and special than others is that it makes us think like a little child. Did you know that thinking like a person who is younger than you and makes you more creative and makes your imagination stronger? Now you know! Also describing someone makes you criticize yourself objectively. This project added a lot to me and I learned many useful things that will help me in my life. Happy“ Character Day”!
