The Blue Economy
The emergence and the recent evolution of the
concept of the Blue Economy in several forums
bears testimony to its importance as an alternative
economic model for sustainable development that
acknowledges our dependency on the oceans.
Following the Rio+20 Conference, there has been a
growing appreciation that the world’s oceans and
seas require more in-depth attention and coordinated
action. The outcome document of the Conference,
“The Future We Want,” identifies three key dimensions
for sustainable development: poverty eradication;
