The Special Games is an experience that I will personally never forget. The Special Games is a Kiwanis event that is put on every year with the help of the Kiwanis Clubs of Division 12 and Division 34 that is set up to be on the Football Field of De Anza College, CA. Unlike the Special Olympics who presume a much higher level of function, the Special Games excludes no child.

This past May 17th, 2013, we celebrated the XXXV Special Games with the attendance of 987 athletes from 60 schools around the area the Bay Area on the football field of De Anza College. We had over 18 games set up to serve the children visiting from all over the Bay Area to have a fun and eventful day. Games range from Nerf gun archery to 100 yard dashes. Some children look forward to this one day every year to come out and have the time of their lives. We have many members of the Kiwanis Family that come out to serve as volunteers and group leaders to a small group of 3-6 special-need athletes, including 21 Key Clubs from the region, 1 Builder Club from the region, 6 Circle K clubs from the division, and over 30 Kiwanis clubs from the division 12 and 13 as well. Our goal is to guide these special-needs children to games that suit their disability, and also make sure that they do not injure themselves.
