TO 13.1
A STORY OF TRIUMPH OF FINISHING A
HALF-MARATHON BY APRIL BOWDEN
T
he journey to 13.1 begins like most other
journeys, with the courage to take the first
step. For me, the first step,was believing I
could run such a distance. I signed up for my first
half marathon shortly after I completed my first
5k. Diva Half Marathon was in Myrtle Beach and
I would spend twelve weeks training. It wasn’t an
easy twelve weeks, primarily because most of my
longer runs took place in the middle of the week....

alone. My work schedule didn’t allow me to run
the long distances with my friends who were also
training for the same race.
I am currently training for my 4th half marathon.
The hardest part for me of a 13.1 race isn’t the race at
all, it’s the training. It’s committing to 12-16 weeks
of rearranging life and sleep around a training
