First major music festival in Charbonneau was a joy

Thanks to everyone who helped make our first big music festival a success.“ Blues for Schools,” the Wilsonville Music Festival @ Charbonneau, Aug. 2-3
MCLAIN was a joy for everyone
who loves live music. Alice Galloway and her team worked tirelessly to make sure the musicians were top-notch, and the venue was ready for world-class blues. The Charbonneau Country Club staff were all involved in the details that contributed to a great event. Saturday’ s show featuring Ben Rice & PDX Hustle was almost sold-out, and everyone agreed it was fantastic. With the Fireplace Room’ s disco ball sparkling, there was dancing, eating and drinking and fun. Sunday’ s events featured six bands alternating between stages in the Pavilion and Clubhouse dining room, culminating with the Revival Brothers and their Allman Brothers tribute band. KOIN-6 TV anchor Ken Boddie emceed Sunday’ s concerts, which also received rave reviews. Attendees moved in and out during the day and evening, enjoying music and dancing and good food from two food trucks.
Once again, we thank the city of Wilsonville’ s Arts, Heritage & Culture Council for its generous grant to help us kick-start this event for the community. Proceeds from ticket sales and donations at the door will provide grants to the performing arts programs at Canby and Wilsonville High Schools.
Next up: Wilsonville Festival of the Arts @ Charbonneau
Now that the music festival is over, we are gearing up for the next big event in Charbonneau, the 41st annual Wilsonville Festival of the Arts @ Charbonneau, Oct. 10-12. We have a great team of volunteers on the Organizing Committee, planning all the details for a major arts festival. As this article is written, the Booth Show in the Clubhouse
is sold out, with many returning artists and artisans, plus new participants with unique hand-crafted items. Others are signed on to display framed art and sculpture in the Fine Art Gallery in the Activity Center. The Festival Store, which will be located again in the Activity Center Library, will offer more affordable prints and unframed art and greeting cards. This annual event is our major fundraiser in support of the arts programs at Canby and Wilsonville High Schools and scheduled to give everyone an opportunity for some early holiday shopping. Last year’ s festival had 150 volunteers, helping to make it a success, and we will be recruiting again for this year. A few hours of each volunteer’ s time are all we need for success.
Chad Rupp & TSR performed on Sunday with bassist Timmer Blakely, president of Cascade Blues Association and one of our festival organizers.
