For Lock Haven Football, the Trenches will mean Everything
As the Lock Haven football season grows closer, a consensus has arrived: No position will carry more weight than the offensive line.
Within the midst of a coaching change unlike other position groups, who have at most been dented by transfers and graduations, the Bald Eagle offensive line has been forced to see a face lift. Of the five starters who took the field for the Bald Eagles in a PSAC-leading protection group, not a single starter returns from last season.
While two took the walk from graduation, three linesmen, Taylor Hartner, Donovan Jones, and Matt Frederick, took their walking papers.
With one of the more crucial seasons in Lock Haven football beckoning, who is expected to fill the shoes in 2025?
Five familiar names do return into the season, with notable backups Lance Becoats, Joe Dolinski, Jaiman Holden, Ronny McNulty, and Logan Keller, all listed as second string linesman last season. Of the five, only Holden will return as an upper classman, with the others getting set for their sophomore campaigns.
In total, there were 23 appearances made from the backups, with Lance Becoats playing nine games, and Logan Keller featuring in all 11 fixtures.
The incoming freshman class also appears strong, as six offensive lineman become possibilities. Of the newcomers, Central Mountain graduate Devon Rhodes and Muncy graduate Kenny Hampe join the thinned out group, with Maryland natives Yamontae Shird and Blake Wanless, Wilkes-Barre native James Grykewicz, and Elizabethtown graduate Greyson Seaman rounding out the class.
But just as the transfer portal can taketh, it can also give. In addition to the new class, a pair of Lackawanna transfers in Christian Bundra and Johnny Cranford Jr. come into the fold as upperclassmen.
The pair, who hail from Northampton and Pottstown, are towering figures, with both listed as six foot six and over 290 pounds. The pair were stalwarts for the Falcons, with the duo combining for 19 appearances in 2024 as interior offensive lineman. Even if it comes from the JuCo level, their experience is expected to be vital for the upcoming season.
The Bald Eagles will take the field for the first time on Saturday, September 6th against Glenville State. Coverage for all eleven Lock Haven Football games can be found on:
