LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR OF AGRONOMY
I have had a busy first couple of months here at Sun N Lake Golf Club . My team has been able to complete many projects with more slated for the remainder of the year .
We have continued to verticut the greens in order to remove unwanted thatch and grain . This will allow for a firmer putting surface and truer roll . It will also allow us to achieve a better putting speed . I know it seems like every time the greens start to recover , we rip them up again . We will get the greens to a point where they will stay consistent . However , in order to keep them consistent we will have to continue verticutting during the growing months . In addition , we are continuing to push the tees with fertilizer and get them healthier for the upcoming months . We have also applied command and will treat the tees with a nematicide to kill the nematodes in the turf .
The new forward tees are growing in well . We are trying to get them open by the first of October . We have been fertilizing weekly and have rolled them to continue getting them smoother . We are beginning to cut some of them already . Once the new tees have a couple cuts on them , we will then spray the weeds that have germinated .
We continue to spray out the weeds on the course . We have removed a lot of them and will continue until the course is completely clean . We will be applying a pre-emergent this fall to keep the annual blue grass and winter annual weeds under control . Pre-emergent applications will be done every 120 days helping to keep the turf on our golf courses much healthier and cleaner moving forward . We will also continue spraying the tree rings and landscape beds .
In closing , we are excited about the new short game practice area and hope you enjoy using it to improve your game . The grass in this area is in the grow in stage . Once completed it will feature a bunker , two greens , and 40 yards of fairway to hit a variety of shots .
As always , we ask that you please repair all your ball marks and fill divots and watch where we drive the golf carts .
Until next time , we hope you enjoy your round and playing here at Sun N Lake .
Best Regards ,
Jimmie Murphy
