State Treasurer Fitzgerald
Publishes the Great Iowa
Treasure Hunt Featuring
Local Names
State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald is reminding Iowans
the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt publication is here.
Local newspapers will be featuring the newest names added
to the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt in hope of returning
unclaimed property to its rightful owners. “Over 543,000
individuals have had unclaimed property returned to them
through the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt program and my
goal is to keep that number rising,” Fitzgerald said. “We
are currently holding over three million properties, totaling
more than $395 million.”
When a person does not respond over an extended
period of time to regular mailings from banks or corporations
holding their funds, the property is reported to the
State Treasurer as unclaimed property. “New unclaimed
property is added every year, so even if you have claimed
property in the past, it could be worth your time to search
GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov again,” Fitzgerald added.
The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt has returned over $286 million
dollars to its rightful owners. Unclaimed assets could
be from forgotten or inactive savings/checking accounts,
utility refunds or deposits, uncashed insurance benefit
checks, lost stock and dividends or even abandoned safe
deposit box contents.
Visit the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt at GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov
to begin your search and make your claim
today. Keep up with all of Treasurer Fitzgerald’s programs
on Facebook and Twitter.
