It’s August! That’s right, we are in the eighth month of the year. Time is flying by. Just about every commercial and department store sale has to do with going back to school whether for elementary, high school or college. You are preparing yourself to brave through it and take the children/grandchildren back to school shopping. As you do all of that I have one question for you. Have you started anything on your goal list for 2014?
Many people start working on their list in January or even at the end of the prior year in December. They eagerly set goals they want to accomplish before the year ends concerning their education, finances, health, business, family, etc. Please do not panic or become downhearted if you haven’t done it. The good news is that this year has not ended so there is still valuable time left to make a BOLD move. Starting a task or embarking on a new journey does not have to be determined by the calendar. All that matters is that you make the steps to accomplish the desired goals.
Take weight loss for an example: Some people want to take a pill or give themselves an injection because the product promises quick results. That would be wonderful, but it’s no likely to happen. Some experts say that one should expect it will take twice as much time to lose weight as it did to gain the weight.
There must be effort and change to accomplish major results when it comes to weight loss. Eating habits and physical activity must change, and they won’t unless we take the steps to seek out the information and support we need.
Weight loss is not the only popular goal that people set out to do on New Year’s Day; there are many others. No matter what your goal may be, remember that the satisfaction of completing the goal will never happen if the steps to get to the end aren’t taken.
Allow me to share a friend’s testimony with you. Several years ago she stepped out on faith and quit her job as a city bus driver to attend cosmetology school as a full-time student. What made her do this? She was discussing her passion for styling hair and how she would love to be a professional hairstylist. Her friend encouraged her to pursue it and not long after she found a local college with a cosmetology program, enrolled and quit the job that she had.
Today she is a licensed cosmetologist working in a salon. This is not the only source of income that she has, but she is doing something that she enjoys and went through the necessary steps to accomplish her goal.
You may be wondering what your first step should be to embark upon your new journey. Get a journal and write down what you want to accomplish and research the steps and resources you will need to complete your goal. Whether it is becoming a licensed cosmetologist or opening a coffee house that has open mic talent nights, the sky is the limit!
There are books, classes, websites and more that have plenty of information and suggested steps for achieving goals. Don’t procrastinate any longer. There will be always be excuses, but there may not always be opportunities. Go ahead, make a BOLD Move.
