GIRLS
Following training throughout the year , the girls were also looking forward to this season ’ s fixtures . After initially falling short with a close loss to Benenden , the team really hit their stride , winning four fixtures in a row . A particularly memorable win was a 9-0 victory against King ’ s Canterbury , which continued the girls ’ ongoing winning streak .
Our 5-1 victory against Brentwood School was particularly significant , as this qualified the team for the national cup semi-finals . The girls went on to play against Eastbourne in the next cup fixture ,
which would determine which side would go on to the national finals in July . This was an incredibly challenging fixture , with youngsters Maddie Brown and Serena Manca playing outstanding tennis , each winning their singles and doubles matches , resulting in a 3-3 draw . This led to a hard-fought deciding tiebreak match , in which we just fell short 7-4 . Special mentions go to Serena and Annabel Nuijens for their valiant efforts in this incredibly tough game .
Due to the reduced number of matches and the cancellation of the ISTA tournament , the season sadly finished earlier than it normally would ; however , the girls concluded it strongly , with a comfortable 6-0 victory against Cranbrook .
Furthermore , the junior year groups also had a very successful season , with the U15A , U14A , U13A and U12A teams finishing undefeated . Our U13 and U15 national cup sides continue their cup run into the Michaelmas term and we look forward to seeing how they progress .
We wish the best of luck to our leaving Upper Sixth senior players Christiane Gontarek , Sachi Gwalani and Sofia Melamed , and thank them for their contributions to a fantastic season .
