The department has been hugely impressed with the initiative , drive and imagination shown by pupils involved in co-curricular drama , before , during and after the third lockdown , whether they were listening on Microsoft Teams to small groups perform live radio drama versions of chapters from The Great Gatsby ; or watching the newly formed Dance and Physical Theatre Club film some of its site-specific work from the Year 11 enrichment course ; or seeing the Stage Design Club support the shadow puppet making for the Year 7 plays .
Not many schools have managed to rehearse and stage plays this year ; not many schools can celebrate a National Shakespeare Monologue competition winner ( congratulations to Marcel Steinbauer-Lewis ) as well as having two students – Krish Misra in Year 9 and Olivia Pigram in Year 10 – selected for the National Youth Theatre , one of the most prestigious youth ensembles in the world . Pupils , support staff and teaching staff have all created a foundation on which to rebuild and blossom in the next academic year , when we will also be celebrating 40 years of the Sackville Theatre .
