DRAMA REVIEW OF THE YEAR
It is often said that the process of a play being realised can be summarised as the undertaking of a series of problem-solving exercises (‘ how do we represent Exit pursued by a bear ?’; ‘ how do we schedule the dress rehearsal to work around that cup match ?’).
Well , this year ’ s pursuit of co-curricular Drama has certainly thrown up its own unique problems , particularly with the restrictions on working together and the uncertainty of live performances taking place . Yet students and staff have shown tremendous resilience and personality to meet this challenge . We have seen new clubs thrive , we have experimented with filming a production using the new multi-cam system in The Space , and we have delighted in welcoming back audiences to the Summer term performances given by Middle and Lower School pupils .
As with any conventional rehearsal process in a normal year , we have had to find creative solutions to problems , which in turn leads to inventive material and ideas . It is one of the many valuable transferable skills of pursuing a creative activity . Another is the importance of working collaboratively ; it has been evident that , despite the difficulties , students have needed , more than ever , to be creative , but also to connect with others and rely on one another .
