OLD SENNOCKIANS CRICKET
Sunday 20 June School 1st X1 vs Old Sennockians , Solefields
It did not start too well for the OS with Tom Allen losing narrowly ( comfortably ) to Ollie Rajah ( 1st XI slowest runner ) over 30 yards !
The OS then batted and scored 123-6 on a tricky Solefields wicket . The innings was held together by a sensible 57 not out , by Harry Houillon ( who won the ‘ old stash ’ batting award ). I was also impressed by the consistent contributions from the other OS batsmen .
A strong bowling and fielding performance by OS restricted the school to 120-6 with the match all resting on the last ball bowled by Tom Nickols . A searing inswinger resulted in only a bye and the OS won by two runs .
Ed Thomas bowled tidily taking 2-17 off his four overs and winning the ‘ old stash ’ bowling award . Other highlights were a couple of slightly rusty overs from Louis Ashe-Jepson and Max Wrobel which opened the game up nicely and Jack Hulston being fined for celebrating as though he had won the Ashes , when bowling the school 15-year-old .
Finally , thank you very much to Alfie Marr-Johnson for captaining the side so well and for his kind words at the end .
Following a number of years of Chris Tavaré and I ( mainly Tav ) running this game , the reins will be handed over to Dave Smith ( Head of Cricket ) and he will continue this great annual fixture . I will obviously be there to have a beer and eat the BBQ !
