ATHLETICS
Although we missed an entire summer of athletics , our students certainly made up for the absence with an array of team and individual successes to report .
Having made the decision to provide athletics as a co-ed sports option in 2019 , it meant that the foundations had already been laid to take further strides in developing the programme . The uptake in numbers choosing athletics was a particular standout with many new and old faces returning to the fold . This was hugely exciting and meant tough selection decisions , while fostering an environment which prides itself upon hard work and application at all times .
COMPETITION OVERVIEW
To kick off the term , we hosted a couple of friendly fixtures to provide our students with a welcome return to competing whilst allowing for mass participation across all age groups . This provided a real thirst for competition and the school was able to select its highest number of students to compete at the Combined Athletics Championships and Kent Track and Field Championships . This proved to be the most successful year for county representation and medal performances and was only the start of what was to come for such a talented group of individuals .
Impressive performances across school and representative meets meant that numerous longstanding records were broken , exemplifying the strengths within both male and female representation . While achieving some noticeable individual success , our students also helped put Sevenoaks School on the map with team events .
Overall , the 2021 season was an outstanding effort by all involved , from junior to senior participation and school to national representation . It has been fantastic to see the track teeming with students after school every day and it is this team culture that has allowed several individuals to push on to real excellence . Charlotte Bloodworth ( Year 7 ) epitomised this profile , displaying the self-motivation , work ethic and excellence in competition that is expected of a Sevenoaks athlete . We thank all our athletes and staff for their time , effort and commitment this season .
