RUGBY
Rugby continues to nurture resilience, teamwork and self-belief, in a popular, thriving and evolving sports programme.
As we reflect on a successful term, rugby remains a cornerstone of sports at Sevenoaks. With over 90 fixtures played and a 50 per cent win rate, this term is a testament to the commitment and resilience of our players and coaches. Our goal is to give every student a meaningful competitive experience, celebrating victories, learning from setbacks and growing through challenge. Our focus is on fostering enjoyment, while encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones. Whether building skills, facing fitness tests, or developing tactical awareness, rugby continues to nurture resilience, teamwork and self-belief.
While many schools nationwide report falling numbers, rugby at Sevenoaks continues to thrive. More students than ever are engaging positively with the sport, and success is measured not just in results, but in pride, enjoyment and a desire to continue playing beyond school.
There have been many highlights this year. The U14B team enjoyed a standout season with a 67 per cent win rate, winning six of their nine fixtures. The 1st XV also impressed, reaching the fourth round of the national vase and narrowly missing out on a quarterfinal spot after a hard-fought contest against Worth. The U18 girls made it all the way to the semi-finals in their debut appearance! We must also commend our U13As who have come so far in 12 months, earning their first silverware and winning all but one match at the Rosslyn Park Schools National Sevens.
A landmark moment came in the Lent term with the launch of girls’ rugby sevens, led by Upper Sixth student Molly Sheehy. A dedicated group of 14 girls embraced the opportunity and closed the season with a memorable victory over St John’ s Leatherhead.
The touch rugby club was open to all throughout the Summer term. With mixed ages and genders, attendance is entirely optional, yet the strong and consistent turnout speaks volumes about the appeal of the game and the unifying power of rugby at Sevenoaks.
