ATHLETICS to refine our programme to not only enhance individual performance but also to ignite greater passion and engagement across all age groups. This year saw the introduction of a revised training structure, including specialised speed mechanics sessions, which have added quality, variety and focus to our athlete development.

Athletics has enjoyed another outstanding year, with the programme continuing to grow both in numbers and provision. The introduction of a new indoor season meant selected athletes competed at Lee Valley in a combined events competition, setting the tone for an exciting year of athletics. Interest from all year groups was high and athletics has now become a year-round offering, firmly cementing its place as a core part of sport at Sevenoaks.
Sevenoaks continues to attract top athletic talent, with standout Year 9 additions this year including Matilda Murray, Tiffany Oyewale and Alex Patterson. The school is now a leading athletics centre in the south-east, competing consistently at a national level. With the valued support of Lewis Church, the current British Decathlon champion, we’ ve been able
Among many standout achievements, Matilda Murray broke several long-standing school records in the 75m hurdles, long jump, 100m and relay, some of which had stood for nearly 30 years. Her 75m hurdles time of 10.93 seconds was also the fastest in the UK this season, a remarkable feat.
Team success was also evident. We hosted the Trinity Schools Cup, where the boys placed mid-table against top-tier schools including Hampton and Whitgift, a notable achievement. The inter girls qualified for the ESAA national finals in Chelmsford, ranking in the top six nationally from over 500 entries. Though unable to attend due to timing, their efforts remain commendable.
At the IAPS nationals, we had our largest ever Kent representation at the Alexander Stadium, while the Kent Schools Track and Field Championships and school fixtures showed the depth and strength of our athletes across age groups. The season closed with end-of-term testing, where every athlete improved on their earlier times: a testament to their effort and commitment.
Finally, our Sports Days showcased exceptional performances, rounding off the exceptional year. Trophies and rankings are important, but it’ s the consistent effort, teamwork and desire to improve that truly defines our athletes. A huge well done to all involved!
