PAUL PARHAM
Paul is a teacher beloved by his students. Indeed, at the end of every school year his entire desk is covered by an enormous pile of gifts and cards. These offerings from students, whether leaving Sevenoaks or continuing into higher years, speak of the deep appreciation that they have for Paul’ s impact on them, not just as a Mathematics teacher, but as a person and role model.
In the classroom, Paul is passionate and dedicated to his craft. While both his subject knowledge and pedagogical rigour are outstanding, his greatest asset is his emotional intelligence. Paul has an incredible ability to connect with young people and builds deep, trusting connections full of mutual respect and humour. He is the kind of teacher who truly gets to know each of his students as individuals, and not just as mathematicians. He regularly goes above and beyond and they love him for it.
Noted for driving standards in his leadership of the IB Higher Analysis course, in 2022 Paul earned the role of second in department in Maths. Alongside Jonathan and Guy, Paul has led the department with thoughtfulness, energy and attention to detail. He has driven improvements in both curriculum and assessment to the benefit of our students. Elsewhere, Paul has made a significant contribution to boarding life, becoming a staple part of Sennocke House over the past two years. He has thrown himself into this role with enthusiasm and the girls have deeply appreciated his sense of fun, patience and counselling skills.
In his eight years at Sevenoaks, Paul has truly made a lasting impact on so many students and been an incredible colleague and friend to me and other colleagues. He is a great loss to the school.

ALESSANDRA SYMONS
After 22 years of dedicated service, we bid farewell to Alessandra as she retires from her role at the school. Alessandra began her time with us as a language assistant, but it quickly became clear that her skills, passion and commitment would take her much further. She soon took on a full teaching role, and over the years, became an integral part of the department. She was, in her own words, the face of Italian. As an IB examiner and workshop leader, Alessandra has contributed not only to our school but to the wider educational community.
Throughout her time here, she has been a driving force in developing the Italian department, promoting the language and culture with enthusiasm and care. She has led numerous trips and exchanges, and organised a wide range of activities that brought Italian culture to life for her students and colleagues.
Alessandra has always approached her work with dedication, professionalism and a genuine passion for education. Her support for both new and experienced teachers has been greatly valued, and her willingness to innovate and adapt has made her an inspiring colleague. She has consistently looked for ways to engage and motivate students, and her legacy in the department is significant.
As she enters retirement, Alessandra is looking forward to spending more time travelling, enjoying family life – especially her grandchildren – and pursuing her love of cooking and culture. We have no doubt that she will bring the same energy and dedication to this new chapter as she has to her career.
Alessandra leaves behind a lasting impact and the deepest appreciation of all who have worked with her. She will be greatly missed. We wish her all the very best for the future. Buona fortuna e a presto!
