TENNIS

Boys and girls are Kent Schools Doubles winners .

It has been a successful year overall for Sevenoaks . The U15A teams and the girls ’ U14A team , in particular , had a really strong Summer term . Both U15A teams went unbeaten in all of their block fixtures and the U14A girls only lost one fixture versus a strong Cranleigh team .
The boys ’ 1st team had a great run in the Glanville Cup with excellent wins against Tonbridge , Lancing and St Edmund ’ s on their way to the last round of regional qualifiers . In the final round they lost narrowly to a very good Bede ’ s team 4-2 , in a highly competitive afternoon that could have gone either way . Fred Ivey , Matt Wilkes , Tim McLain , Tommy Cuomo , Matthew McLain , Huw Morgan and Euan Khurana all played their part in getting so close to qualifying for the national finals .
The girls ’ 1st team of Carlotta Kern , Alice Keen , Emily Hancock and Tasia Nahornaya had the tough task of facing Newstead Wood away in the last round of regional qualifying . There was some excellent tennis in very competitive matches . However , Newstead Wood were just too strong , winning 5-1 and qualifying for the national finals , but it was a great effort from the Sevenoaks girls .
In the Youth Schools Cup , we did extremely well . Our girls and boys U15 teams went unbeaten and continued in the competition when it continues into Michaelmas term , as did our U13 girls who also went unbeaten . The U13 boys only lost one match in a shootout against Eltham College , in a match that couldn ’ t have been closer . Amani Gikunda and Tasia Nahornaya won the Harpenden LTC National Schoolgirls ’ Doubles Championships in the U14 category , retaining the title for Sevenoaks .
We had great success in the Kent doubles . Carlotta Kern and Ilsa Russell-Jones won the senior girls ’ competition and Matthew Wilkes and Fred Ivey won the senior boys ’ competition . Our U13 girls , Lola Bray and Isa McLain , and our U15 girls , Ruby Marriage and Emily Hancock , also reached the finals .
