BADMINTON

A year marked by exceptional enthusiasm among all players .

What a fabulous season ! We travelled all over the south-east and won virtually every match , but what set apart this season was the margin of the victories ; I don ’ t think that we have ever beaten Tonbridge 8-1 both home and away before !
The A team only lost one match , when we had a few key players missing for various reasons , and this was against a school we had beaten 7-2 and 14-2 in our other encounters this year . The B team did similarly well , although the margins of the victories were a bit smaller , and they showed great spirit and determination in some very close matches . What made this season different was the strength in depth , as we had nine very talented players who were A-team standard and who all played for the A team at some point .
What always makes it a pleasure to look after the badminton team is the enthusiasm for the matches , where everyone wants to play , and the spirt and clear enjoyment for the game that exists amongst the players ; badminton is probably one of the few sports where the players keep playing after the match has ended and virtually have to be dragged off the court to travel back to school .
Special mentions go to the Upper Sixth players who finished at Sevenoaks this year : Ryan Friis , Alex Yau , Ju Han Tai , Tanya Gupta , Anya Peng and Gloria Yeung . They have been fabulous players and members of the team , and we wish them all the best in their future sporting endeavours .
