MOROCCO FUNDRAISING
After the 2023 earthquake , we raised £ 7000 to support Education for All Morocco , whose boarding houses had been badly damaged .
In the months prior to the IB Geography field trip to Morocco a devastating earthquake struck the country . Among those affected were boarding houses near the Atlas Mountains run by Education for All , a charity supported by Sevenoaks School which provides marginalised girls in rural Morocco with access to education . Many students were extremely concerned for those involved in this disaster and took it upon themselves to raise money to support the cause .
We raised a total of £ 7000 across many different fundraising events . This included a run / cycle / walk which aimed to total the same distance as travelling to Morocco . We have been proud to work with Education for All for several years at Sevenoaks , and this project raised money for emergency repairs of six of the charity ’ s houses , and the replacement of their contents . Funds also provided emergency support , such as food , medicine , water and communications support for the girls and their families and local communities . Students , parents , staff and Old Sennockians entered our fundraising challenge which reached a total distance of 3080km – enough to reach Imlil , Morocco , from Sevenoaks . We completed the final leg of the journey with over 200 students taking part in the group run on Duke ’ s Meadow on a Friday after school .
Additionally , we raised money through a charity hockey match where we collected entries from Lower Sixth students to create two teams of 14 players . Every participant was dressed in humorous clothing such as tutus and onesies . Many came to watch for a small fee , and a bake sale gained some extra donations .
Finally , another spectacular bake sale was hosted by the International Centre , as well as a home clothes day , where each student contributed £ 1 for the cause . This , in conjunction with the hockey match , raised £ 2000 . Overall , it was an amazing achievement for student-led events to raise such large sums of money that could make a big difference and benefit the communities greatly in Morocco .
