From ABBA to opera , Renaissance masterpieces to Nine Lessons and Carols , the amazingly broad choral repertoire has really resonated with our diverse student body .
Over the past year , choral music at Sevenoaks , already a strong and vibrant area of the school , has blossomed – with 120 students in Choral Society alone , performing repertoire from ‘ Bohemian Rhapsody ’ to ‘ March of the Toreadors ’. The benefits of choral music for students are abundant – learning to collaborate , read music and become acquainted with different styles of music are all essential skills for a wellrounded , co-curricular education , as well as allowing pupils to take a break from the classroom and make music with their peers .
The repertoire tackled by our choirs this year has been vast – having the opportunity to sing an ABBA medley and at a carol service in the same couple of weeks felt somewhat surreal ! This year , so much effort has been put into broadening our repertoire and elevating diverse composers and I feel this has really resonated with our diverse student body . We have also put on a huge number of concerts to give students as many opportunities to perform as possible – I have made some of my best memories this year onstage ! Thanks to passionate , organised and dedicated staff , every student , whether singing musical theatre , pop or classical repertoire , has been given the chance to perform in a comfortable , uplifting environment and build soft skills essential for their future after Sevenoaks .
